How To
Step-by-step guides for getting the most out of My Money.
Link a bank
My Money connects to your bank through Plaid with read-only access — it can see balances and transactions, but it can never move your money.
- On the Accounts tab, tap the + button in the top right.
- Search for your bank and sign in through Plaid’s secure screen.
- Choose the accounts you want to include, then confirm.
- Your balances and recent transactions appear in a moment. Pull down to refresh anytime.
Fix a bank that stopped updating
Bank logins expire from time to time. When one does, a banner on the Accounts tab lets you know that bank needs to be reconnected — your history stays put.
- Open the menu — the button in the top-left of any main tab.
- Tap “Connected Banks.”
- Tap “Reconnect” on the bank and sign in again through Plaid’s secure screen. Everything picks up where it left off, history intact.
- “Disconnect” there does the opposite: it removes that bank’s accounts and history from My Money and revokes the connection at Plaid. Your money at the bank is untouched, and you can reconnect anytime with +.
See where your money goes
The Spending tab breaks your spending down by category so the whole picture is clear.
- Open the Spending tab.
- Pick a time range at the top — Today, This Month, or a custom Range.
- Tap a category to drill into its subcategories, then a subcategory to see the transactions behind it.
- Tap Personal, Business, or Investment in the strip to filter the period’s totals — each transaction counts by its own type, whichever card it happened on.
- Tap the accounts chip above the strip to scope spending to All, Personal, Business, or Investment accounts — or a hand-picked set with “Choose Accounts…”.
Fix a category
My Money categorizes every charge for you — and when it gets one wrong, your correction teaches it.
- New transactions the app can’t place wait under “Needs review” on the Spending tab — tap one to file it.
- On any transaction’s details, tap “Change Category” to open the grouped picker and choose the right one.
- A correction sticks, and the app learns from it — future charges from that merchant land in the right place on their own.
- Run a business? The Business group — Materials, Tools, Equipment Rental, and Supplies — is right there in the picker.
Find and cancel subscriptions
My Money reads your recurring charges and gathers them in one place — no extra service, no new bank permission.
- Open the Subscriptions tab to see every recurring charge, its monthly total, and each renewal date.
- For a charge under “Possible subscriptions,” tap “It’s a subscription” or “It’s not” — your answer sticks.
- Tap Cancel on a subscription to jump straight to that biller’s cancellation page. Apple subscriptions open your iPhone’s own manage-subscriptions screen.
- On any charge (a money-out transaction), open its details and use the “This is a subscription” switch to add or remove it yourself.
- Press and hold a subscription and tap “Rename” to give it a name you’ll recognize.
Tag business or personal
Mark each charge business or personal to get a head start on tax time.
- Tap a transaction to open its details.
- Scroll to Expense type and tap Business, Personal, or Investment.
- Set a whole merchant at once, and future charges from it follow the same tag.
- Declare a whole account, too — open it, tap its details (ⓘ), and under “Account type” pick Personal, Business, or Investment. That groups its section on the Accounts tab and sets the default type for its transactions.
Keep your data private
Your information is yours. Access to your bank is read-only, Face ID greets you when you open the app, and nothing is ever sold.
- Face ID greets you when you open the app — no extra setup.
- My Money can view your accounts but can never move money or make a payment.
- Want to look around first? Tap “Explore with sample data” on the first screen to see the whole app with no bank connected.
Delete your account
You can remove everything from inside the app, anytime.
- Open the menu — the button in the top-left of any main tab.
- Tap your profile row (“My Profile”).
- Scroll to the Account section and tap “Delete Account,” then confirm.
- This disconnects every linked bank and permanently deletes your account and its data. Your money at your banks is untouched.
Switch language
My Money speaks English and Spanish — pick either, anytime.
- Open the menu — the button in the top-left of any main tab.
- Tap “Preferences,” then “Language.”
- Pick System, English, or Español. The app switches instantly, and money and dates keep your region’s format.
